Overview
Challenge 23 ("we", "our", or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information.
Information We Collect
Account Information
When you sign in with Apple, we may receive:
- Your name (if you choose to share it)
- Your email address (or Apple's private relay email)
- A unique user identifier
Health Data
With your permission, we access:
- Heart rate data during workouts
- Resting heart rate measurements
- Workout session data
Completed workout sessions — including the heart rate recordings from the session and your computed scores — are stored on your device and backed up to your private account via secure cloud storage, so your training history is recoverable if you lose your phone.
Your physical profile settings (age, weight, resting and maximum heart rate) are deliberately kept only on your device and are never sent to our servers.
Bluetooth Data
We connect to Bluetooth heart rate monitors to receive real-time heart rate data during workouts. We do not collect or store information about your Bluetooth devices.
How We Use Your Information
- To provide workout tracking and heart rate monitoring features
- To calculate training quality scores and recovery metrics
- To sync your data across your devices
- To enable group challenges with friends (if you choose to join)
Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored using Firebase (Google Cloud), which employs industry-standard encryption and security practices. Health data is encrypted both in transit and at rest.
Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We only share data:
- With group members if you join a challenge group (only your display name and workout scores you choose to share — never your raw heart rate recordings)
- With service providers (Firebase/Google) who help operate our app
- If required by law
We will never use your health or fitness data for advertising or marketing, never disclose it to data brokers, and never store your personal health information in iCloud.
Your Rights
You can:
- Delete your account and all associated data at any time, directly in the app (Settings → Profile → Delete Account)
- Revoke HealthKit and Bluetooth permissions in iOS Settings
- Request a copy of your data
Not Medical Advice
Challenge 23 is a fitness measurement tool, not a medical device. It does not diagnose, treat, or prevent any condition. Consult your physician before beginning this or any exercise program, especially if you have a heart condition.
Children's Privacy
Challenge 23 is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app.
